I'm appalled and surprised that no one is objecting to this Arizona "illegal alien law" from the standpoint that now NO ONE will talk to the police about ANY OTHER CRIME EVER. As if it wasn't hard enough to get witnesses to come forward already.

It's hard enough to get rape victims to come forward as it was - now say someone gets raped but their cousin is here illegally and lives in their house - there is NO WAY that person is going to come forward and report the rape.

I am thoroughly disgusted.


EDITED TO ADD: Let me reiterate/rephrase since everyone is reacting to this as if I am speaking about the civil liberties of illegal aliens. I AM NOT.

I'm not even speaking about them as victims.

I'm talking about a situation like the following example:

A US citizen shoots a police officer. The sole witness, who has proof and can identify the shoot is ALSO a legal US citizen. HOWEVER, the witnesses cousin is here illegally.

Because of this law, the police office MUST ARREST that cousin rather than having the option of saying "Look I'm not here about immigration, I just need to know what you saw."

Because of this law that witness, a LEGAL citizen will now no longer talk to the police.

THIS EXAMPLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CIVIL RIGHTS.

It has everything to do with police officers now having an even harder job to do when they are already overworked.


I do find it interesting that no one seemed to actually read what I wrote, but instead took the opportunity to bitch about migrant workers.
